A large mirror can be used to create the impression that the room continues beyond the wall. This gives the optical ilussion that the room extends into that area, instead of missing. The mirror doesn't have to be as large as the one in the picture.
This image of mountains that dim in the distance is perfect to create the impression of long distance perspective that counteracts the uncomfortable feeling of being in a room that is not complete.
The "Horizon Cure" has more than one use in Feng Shui. In this case it is being used to symbolize space and depth above a door (or window) that is on a wall that surrounds a missing portion of the floorplan.
