FENG SHUI: MONEY AND WEALTH
Q. First let me say that, allthough I haven't been through your entire site, what I have read has been very easy to understand & informative. I have you in my "Favorites" list and plan to explore more! I have a question about candles. I purchased a set of "Feng Shui" candles. Is it productive or counter-productive to burn them all at the same time?
A. Thank you for the feedback. I am assuming the set of Feng Shui candles you purchased is a 5 elements one. If the candles are not scented, then it is OK to burn them all the same time as long as you place them in a circle according to the nurturing cycle of the elements, or in a line that follows this cycle from left to right. The order of the elements is as follows: Water - Wood - Fire - Earth - Metal
If the candles are scented then let them burn in this sequence and avoid lighting all of them at the same time.
Q. I have always had hand-me-down and now after Katrina destroyed so much I received items from others and a lot from folks I feel are so negative... What do I do about an apartment of so many items...from kitchen items..dishes...etc and furniture...there is a mattres and box spring that I need to know what to do about...talk about negative folks...I can't afford to replace these things with new... Please help when you can...love, peace and light
A. Try placing soft hand-me-down items, such as mattresses, in the sun for a few hours. The sun has disinfecting and chi clearing properties. You can also use tibetan bells, singing, bowls, gongs, to help clear the energy through sound. Penetrating scents like peppermint, eucalyptus and ginger should also help. If after doing all this your still have misgivings about any items try contacting a local energy healer or shaman to do a clearing session for you.
Q. I am having alot of financial problems right now can you let me know of a remedy I can do I also have my home for sale and it is not selling please advise what I can do
A. To help increase the cash flow please check out the advice on waterfalls:
http://www.fengshuiforus.com/Pages/WaterfallPrints.html
For tips on selling homes, please check this link:

Q. What can I do to increase my chance of getting a good renter for my condo unit (1-bedroom on the ground floor)? Current it is vacant and I wish to attract a good tenant that will pay.
A. Good tenants are attracted to cleanliness and good maintenance. If your place shows it is being cared for, it is likely to attract a good tenant. Pay special attention to windows [these need to be very clean] and doorknobs [these need to be polished]. Also, place a beautiful welcome rug right outside the door to the condo and a couple of planters on the sides of the door.
Q. I wanted to let you know I really enjoyed the class on Life Missions, Money and Career. I came home and used the water feature cure by the front door and received immediate results in a project that had been delayed; I added more water a few days later and expedited more results from that same project. My question is; do I leave my table top waterfall on at night when we are sleeping?
A. Regarding your question about the water fountain, it is actually better for it to be on at night because the career area is related to night and darkness as well as water. However, if the sound of the water affects your sleep or you find that you are getting up at night to go to the bathroom more often than before, then go ahead and turn it off during the night.
Q. I had my house feng shui'd a couple of years ago. However, I really need help in the wealth area, as I have a sizeable debt to tackle and live pretty much from paycheck to paycheck with just enough to get by. My wealth area is in the bathroom and the toilet is closest to that corner. I put purple bath rugs down and a crystal ball hanging from ceiling between door and toilet. I also have a curtain on the door because my cats need to get in and out of there to use the kitty litter, and a bamboo plant that I keep near the toilet. I wondered if you would recommend what else I can do because I would like to create a greater energetic shift. Am working on manifesting a large sum of money to help me breathe easier.
A. You should never enhance life areas in a yin spot [bathroom, laundry, storage room]. You should treat your bathroom as if it was a missing corner in your home. Check out the page on forests and what to do with a bathroom or missing corner in the Wealth Area.
http://www.fengshuiforus.com/Pages/ForestPrints.html
http://www.fengshuiforus.com/Pages/ForestPrints.html#Anchor-Instructions-49575
There's nothing wrong with beautifying a bathroom, but you should never assign it as the spot to build wealth. All this is doing is creating tension and placing all your efforts towards wealth in a spot where they can quickly be drained away. I bet you feel exhausted and probably have a hard time making decisions [this is what happens when the wood element is stressed out]. Basically, right now you are asking the Universe "Please drain my wealth [wood]."
Q. I will be installing wood floors. Should the wood be laid horizontal to the front door or perpendicular? I seem to recall that it should be horizontal so wealth does not flow out of the house...
A. Wooden floors laid horizontally, parallel to the front door, make a space seem wider, while floor boards placed perpendicular to the front door make a space seem deeper. Usually you would place the floor boards parallel to the wall that is longest, as this would create longer "board lines". Having longer floor boards is better than having shorter ones. Wood means wealth and works with long and skinny shapes. Long boards are also associated with longevity, similar to the Chinese custom of eating long noodles for long lives during their new year celebrations. Place attractive rugs in front of every door that leads to the outside if you are concerned with wealth flowing out of the house.
Q. Can you inform me if building on / between huge boulders close to ocean is accepted according feng shui/rules?
A. Building on or between huge boulders is not accepted according to Feng Shui rules, especially if any boulders are broken or loose. The effect of the boulders can be minimized with vegetation but it is best to avoid the purchase a property in such a location.
Q. I have an area under my staircase that really needs something in that space. What is good to put there?
A. Light fixtures, especially spotlights on the floor that point the light up and vibrant plants are the best items to place under a staircase to bring more life into this area. If this is not a good spot for a plant, you may try placing bright beautiful objects in there.
Q. I was reading where to place forest image my house is almost the same as pic #1 (Place forest image on either wall of this corner). http://www.fengshuiforus.com/Pages/ForestPrints.html The only differnce is I have a slide door glass in the wall should I place the image before the glass door or I place the image the way is in pic #1(place forest image on either corner).
A.If you have enough wall space for the picture right at the corner on either wall, then it is better to place your picture there. You should not hang pictures from glass doors or windows. If there is not enough room for a picture on the wall at the corner, then place it to the side of the sliding door, as close as you can to the corner.
Q. Thank you for the advice, also what is the difference about place a plant or three in the corner and hanging a forest image in the wall? It has to be natural or plastic plant.
A. It is better to place a healthy live tall plant. Placing an artificial [silk] plant or a forest image are equally good.
Q. My DOB is 16/07/69,I would like to know when will be my money luck in life? My country is Malaysia
A.For an answer to your question based on your date of birth you will need to contact a practitioner of Compass School Feng Shui or an expert in Chinese Astrology. I practice Form School Feng Shui. From my perspective you are a spiritual being and cause over matter. You don't need to wait for a particular date to bring in a greater abundance of money into your life. Take a look at my page on waterfalls to find out how you can call more money into your life anytime, anywhere.

Q. What do i do if my laundry is my wealth corner? My laundry is located next to a toilet and kitchen at the back of the house.
A. Basically, because the laundry room is a yin area [yin means cold, dark and humid] you ought not to try to enhance wealth in this room. Rather you need to project the Wealth corner to a positive area of the home, like the kitchen. The kitchen, at a conscious level, also represents Wealth, so in your case it would be perfect to enhance wealth in your kitchen.
Bathrooms and laundry rooms in the Wealth corner need to be addressed as missing areas. Please go to this page on my website to see 3-D graphics of how to address this:

FENG SHUI: ROMANCE, CALLING A MATE

Q. We are going to move in to a new house(rental) me and my boyfriend just painted the room burgundy would that be ok?
A. A burgundy bedroom is auspicious for a couple as it represents the fire element [passion] the mother -or precursor - of relationships. It would only be a problem if one or both people in the couple have too much of a fiery personality and tend to blow up. In any case, I suggest you complement your decor with beige and gold accents.

Q. I am 35 years old and my parents are worried about the fact I am still single. Can you help?
A. Check out this page on my site. It shows how to arrange a Bedroom for Love. In Feng Shui, the best way to attract a mate is to arrange your bedroom as if you were already married, making room for that special person in your life.

http://www.fengshuiforus.com/Pages/BedroomForLove.html

You can also try wearing a gold band in your wedding finger at night and leaving it in the night stand during the day. Instead of the band, you can also use some symbol of marriage particular to your culture.

Q. How can i make love stay with me and not disappear after a period?i have been all my life being loved so greatly in the beginning but the love seems to fade from anyonr that i love after a period of 3 years.
A. It is hard to answer this question without more information, but I would recommend that you make sure your home has a relationship corner [that it is not missing or have an inconvenient room, like a bathroom in it] and that your bedroom is arranged for love. These are helpful links:

http://www.fengshuiforus.com/Pages/BedroomForLove.html

http://www.fengshuiforus.com/Pages/9LifeAreas.html
If that doesn't help you may want to teach yourself about Feng Shui and relationships by reading the corresponding chapter on my book "Marriage, Relationships and Partnerships":

http://www.fengshuiforus.com/Pages/FengShuiforUsBook.html
Of course, you can also get a long distance consultation focused on attracting and maintaining love relationships.

Q. How can i make my relationship last for ever?
A. A great starting point is your choice of furniture for the master bedroom. Choose furniture that could last a lifetime, and make sure the headboard is wooden, solid and has rounded corners.
Q. What is the best date to get married in the month of october this year? my birthdate is november 7, 1979 my partner is february 18,1979
A. The kind of Feng Shui that I practice stems from Form School, which is based on the observation of the environment and universal laws. The kind of Feng Shui that makes "predictions" from birth dates is Compass School, based on Chinese Astrology.
It would be a very sad thing for you and your mate to bet your future marital happiness on an astrological calculation. You are spiritual beings and cause over matter, marriage is a spiritual creation that needs to be sustained daily by the decision of both parts to continue to be an item.
Choose the date that suits better your personal needs and the needs of the people you love. If you can, choose a date with numbers that have special significance for the two of you, and trust that the TAO, the power from which all that exists came from will lead you to choose the best combination of place, date and circumstances for your wedding.
True Feng Shui should set you free, not imprison you. If the two of you choose to assume the responsibility for your mutual happiness, check out how to create A Bedroom for Love:

FENG SHUI: HEALTH

Q. What can you do to get a person off of drugs is there anything?
A. In Feng Shui addictions are considered to be related to a false image of self - the person has forgotten that they are a spiritual being, worth of every blessing, and co-creators of reality. Therefore a very good starting point is to work with mirrors and the feedback they give us. Let go of any mirrors that fragment or distort the image in any way, such as concave or convex mirrors, mirror mosaics and beveled mirrors [you can also cover the bevels using decorative tape or paint]. Make sure that all the mirrors in the home reproduce nice things and that all those living with you can see all of their head and neck in all mirrors, or not able to see themselves at all [as in the case of children and mirrors placed higher up.] It's also good to declutter clothes.

FENG SHUI: CHILDREN AND FERTILITY

Q. My husband and I have been married for 10 year's and dearly love kids. After 4 year's of fertilitie treatment we have one 3 1/2 year old son. We would dearly love another but the fertilitie clinic say there's no way! I'd prefurr one of my own but could easierly love someone elses. I also have a hard time concentrating. Is there something I could do to our home to help bring children in, and something I can wear to interview's etc that will charm people into our ture loveing nature??
I believe in Feng Shui.
A. It is very important that your home be clean and organized, this will help clear your mind and improve concentration. This will also give a good impression of you to others. It is also important to keep all medication out of sight. When people come into your home, if they see medication out they have two thoughts: one that you are not healthy; and the other one that a child could find the medication and take it, putting the child's life at risk. You may want to display pictures of happy moments the three of you have experienced as a family, for example pictures of a picnic, an outing, etc. To go to interviews, wear very classic, conservative clothes in soft fabrics, nothing rigid or too tight. Wear pastel or earth colors, solid colors rather than prints. Your husband should wear a suit. You may also want to activate the children's area of your home [midpoint on the right hand wall when you look inside the house from the main door] with whimsical objects and items that children like, especially circles in pastel tones.

Q. Hello,my question has to do with roll up beds that are placed on the floor or temporary beds in general. I live in a studio apartment with my six year old daughter. Due to space limitations we are force to give up my bed, mattress included.(Waaa!) Some considerations for our new sleeping arrangements are on the floor on a Japanese roll up bed. As an option, I have also recently considered an inflatable mattress. We really need the space to able to move about.
A. If you live in an area where insects/spiders are not a big problem it seems a Japanese roll-up bed would be the best solution for you. I assume you already considered a sofa-bed and realized this is not the best option for you right now? Inflatable beds are OK for a visit, but not for every night. They are synthetic and do not allow the skin to breathe properly, plus most plastics "gas out" harmful substances.
Try to place your mattress so the heads point towards a solid wall and put big pillows against the wall so you can lean back and read books. Place a blanket between the mattress ant the floor and sweep/vacuum the floor often. However, a comfortable sofa bed would be a better solution.

COLORS

Q. What colors can i use to paint my studio apartment that follow the feng shui pratices?
A. Use light pastel or light earth tones to paint your studio apartment. These colors will make it seem bigger. Avoid rich dark colors, which would make it feel smaller. In a small place it is better to paint the walls with neutral colors and use accent colors in accessories only.

CRYSTALS

Q. What is the role of Crystals and how these can be used ?
A.You can check the Feng Shui for Us Marketplace. Click on the crystal [s] you are interested in. The use of clear and quartz crystal is stated underneath the pictures. Color crystals are used to enhanced the life areas in home or business.

http://www.fengshuiforus.com/Pages/Marketplace.html#Anchor-35326

Q. My health and finances are going down the tubes. How can I help this problem? Would crystals like an Amethyst work. And how do I know where to place it or them?
A. Both problems you are facing are in life areas ruled by the Wood element [living plants, color green, natural fibers, vertical stripes, sour flavor]. Try adding more live plants to your home [cactuses, creeping plants and spider plants excepted].
Man-made faceted crystals that also attract and re-distribute chi can help. Take a look at the purple and green crystals on this page:
http://www.fengshuiforus.com/Pages/Marketplace.html
Also take a look at Waterfalls for Money http://www.fengshuiforus.com/Pages/WaterfallPrints.html
and Forests for Wealth http://www.fengshuiforus.com/Pages/ForestPrints.html
If you have a bathroom in the health midpoint or in the wealth corner of your home, then you might want to get an assessment by a Feng Shui practitioner. You can also learn how to deal with bathrooms in my book: http://www.fengshuiforus.com/Pages/FengShuiforUsBook.html
FAQ

Q. How drastically have the principles changed since feng shui was first practiced?
A. Feng Shui is the Ancient Chinese Art of Placement. The first evidence of Feng Shui is found in China as far as 6,000 years ago but it did not acquire coherence as a separate discipline until about 300 AD, when the oldest school developed. There are two major schools of Feng Shui: Form School and Compass School. All other schools stem from either of the original two. The two schools have aspects in which they agree and aspects in which they vary widely.
The oldest school of Feng Shui is called Form School, which is based on the observation of the environment and people's interaction with their surroundings. The system I practice stems from Form School.
Compass School was developed around 1,000 AD and is largely based on Chinese Astrology. Based on a calculation from a person's birth year, four positive and four negative magnetic directions are established, which the person is to seek or avoid.
Both schools have remained pretty consistent throughout the years, except for the incorporation of cultural symbolisms from the different countries where Feng Shui has been assimilated.
In the past 30 to 50 years though, when this art has become more popular in the Western culture two major changes have occurred: one is an ever greater concern with chemical and electromagnetic pollution, as well as a sense of responsibility towards the planet; the other one is the incorporation of so called "New Age" concepts. For example, visualization and manifesting [as metaphysical concepts]
Though there may be many interpretations, the principles of Feng Shui remain unchanged, because they are taken from natural laws.
http://www.fengshuiforus.com/Pages/9PrinciplesofUniversalLaw.html

Q. Is feng shui considered a science, art, superstition or myth?
A. Feng Shui is considered a healing art of space, however its methods are very rigorous. It is important to notice that in traditional Asian culture Medicine is taught as an art, while Painting is taught as a science.
Unfortunately, over the years many superstitious practices have made their way into Feng Shui. The Traditional Chinese definition of healing is as follows: if it makes you free then it is true healing; if it enslaves you, then it is false healing. Superstitions are beliefs that enslave the person.
The same belief or practice may be liberating for one person while it enslaves another. For example, the use of a Buddha statue to enhance the Helpful People area of a person's home and life will be liberating and life affirming for someone who practices the Buddhist faith, but it would be limiting and enslaving for a person of the Catholic faith [who at a conscious or unconscious level believes this practice to be a sin]. That is why I always encourage people to use only the symbols that are part of their own belief system.

Q. How can you see the results?
A. Some of the results in Feng Shui are obvious to the observer. After a Feng Shui process an area will look more wholesome, balanced and harmonious. A chaotic closet will become more organized and less cluttered. Other results are of a subjective nature. Some clients report better sleep, increased ability to concentrate, reduced arguments with mates, etc. More dramatic results reported are monetary windfalls or promotions right after a Feng Shui change was made, or finally finding a love interest after making changes in the bedroom or getting rid of old clothes.

Q. What theory of feng shui is most reliable or popular?
A. My personal opinion is that Form School is more reliable, because it deals with tangible things -- the shape of mountains, rivers or lakes; the shapes and colors of buildings, rooms and furniture, etc. Compass School deals with intangible things such as supposed magnetic compatibilities or incompatibilities based on the date of birth -- to me this is an enslaving way of thinking.
In areas where there is a deep cultural influence of Chinese Astrology, Compass School is more popular. Most schools that have developed in the United States are ramifications of Form School of Feng Shui.
